OK it's December; what shall we play till Christmas? I'm tempted to suggest New Year Tunes; there are a surprising number, but perhaps we could extend that to festive tunes [but please, NOT carols]. Any other suggestions?

Pete,

What's not to like about carols? If you can manage a high B, then you can play 'Es ist ein Ros entsprungen' by Michael Praetorius (transposed to D). For the normal scale, others are to be found in 'A New Way to Melrose'; even the Tyrolean Cradle Song has Christmas connotations.

The December 2011 Tune of the Month: "Christimass Time in the Morning" paired with another tune(s). The pipes are in G and do not take kindly to ornamentation, especially of the more elaborate sort.

bit harsh on the carols Pete. I mean, indiscriminate carol playing: fair enough, but some of the older ones are very effective. God rest ye merry... makes a fine reel, e.g.

Frustrating how it's the simple tunes that are so difficult to get right; at least I didnt upload the clip of me singing the wren hunt song....
