LBPS Teaching Events 2017
In a break from the traditional annual teaching weekend, the Society will next year be offering a number of teaching days and weekends in various locales, on specific topics. Details and booking will be available in the New Year, but advance notices of the first two are detailed below.
Pibroch Teaching Event
with Allan Macdonald and Barnaby Brown
Wooley High Hall, Allendale NE47 9AH
Fri (eve) 7th - Sun 9th April, 2017
Following on from the enthusiastic reception for the presentations these two leading authorities gave at this year's Collogue, we have invited them to host a two-day teaching event to explore Coel Mor (and a little Ceol Beg) on smallpipes.
Border Piping Teaching Day
with Chris Ormston and Matt Seattle
Gordon Arms, Yarrow Valley, Selkirk TD7 5LE Tel: 01750 82261
Sat 20th May, 2017 10am - 5pm
A rare opportunity to study Border tunes, techniques and style from a cross-Border perspective.
Chris and Matt, who between them have been immersed in the music of the Border for more than 70 years, will concentrate on music which is suitable for both Border pipes and Scottish smallpipes (i.e. 9-note tunes). Matt will also - if there is a demand - explore some of the repertoire which asks a little more from the Border chanter.
Please bring Border or Scottish smallpipes in A.

The long-awaited revised edition of this sought-after tutor for bellows pipes is now available from the LBPS Shop
The Bagpipe Map was officilly launched at the International Bagpipe Conference in Glasgow on February 27th.
This map is an ongoing project whose goal is to create a map of all the currently known depictions of bagpipes to be seen in publicly accessible buildings in Britain.
This is an ongoing project which relies for its growth on a community of contributors. If you know of, or happen to encounter on your travels, a carving or painting of a piper that is not yet included here then you are welcome to join this community and make a contribution: See the ‘Help Build the Map’ page for details.
|The LBPS CD 'Reclaimed' is now avaialble at the LBPS shop.
This is an exciting new venture for the Society; produced by Iain MacInnes and Hamish Moore, it contains 17 tracks, including specially recorded perforamnaces and some 'historical' archive recordings.

In this collection, we present a selection of Quicksteps, 68 in all, drawn primarily from the old collections by the likes of Donald MacDonald, Angus MacKay and John MacLachlan. As has been demonstrated so ably by our tutors, these tunes are ideally suited to playing on ‘cauld wind’ pipes.
