So far the LBPS has happily followed the Northumbrian Pipers Society in their choice of tune; for April they have chosen The Morpeth Rant; this is quite a challenge for Scottish pipers, and I'm quite happy to see submissions from LBPS pipers playing any tune with 'Rant' in the title.
However, I have located a version of the Morpeth Rant from Borders fiddler Tom Hughes, via 'Hardcore English', the wonderful compilation of English music by the late, much-missed, Barry Callaghan. It requires only minor modifications to become a nine-note tune and I'm working on it ....

It looks like this is the best I'm likely to do with this for this month at least. To get me round the first bar of the B music that Tom plays [up to a high d and a downward scale] I've borrowed a bar from the more familiar 'new' tune, first published by Kerr ii his Merry Melodies. otherwise, with the exception of the 'ellided' bottom f#'s, this is Tom Hughes' version- well it was when I started...
