BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
- Our journal COMMON STOCK has been published twice yearly since 1983. Produced and edited by Jim Gilchrist, the journal comes out in June and December each year. It is FREE to members of the Lowland and Border Pipers' Society and represents tremendous value for money.
- A newsletter contains details of forthcoming social gatherings, performances and other events.
- We can direct members to fellow enthusiasts through our Membership Directory, giving useful information about other pipers in your area, and tuition available.
- The Society has some sets of practice pipes available for hire to members - for those who want to try it out before committing to the expense of a full set, or who may be on a maker's waiting list and who can't wait to get started! These are basic two drone, synthetic pipes with plastic chanters designed as a starter kit for temporary use only. Contact Jim Buchanan for further information.
- We have a policy of publishing music reflecting past collections, but giving an airing to contemporary composition.
We organise concerts, competitions, teaching weekends and collogues (conferences) to promote playing and discussion.
- Our annual Collogue is a much appreciated feature in the Scottish traditional cultural calendar, where we invite specialists to give papers on the instruments and related musical issues; these are interspersed with live performance.
- We also offer an annual competition featuring a range of classes to suit all ages and abilities. Full details in the EVENTS section.
- We have a range of other MERCHANDISE including books, T-shirts and stickers.
